Every domain has an expiration date. To keep the domain active, it should be renewed before or on its expiration date.
What Happens When a Domain Expires?
Depending on the domain extension and registrar:
-
The domain may stop resolving or the website/email may stop working.
-
The domain may enter a grace period, during which renewal may still be possible at the regular renewal price.
-
After the grace period, the domain may enter a redemption period, where additional recovery fees may apply.
-
Eventually, the domain may enter pending deletion and become available for registration again.
Important
-
Renew your domain before the expiration date to avoid service interruption.
-
Do not assume that an expired domain can always be renewed at the normal price.
-
The exact expiration, grace, redemption, and deletion process depends on the domain extension and registry rules.
-
If a domain shows statuses such as
pendingDeleteorredemptionPeriod, contact support before taking further action.
