How to Change Domain Nameservers Print

  • 0

Overview

Nameservers tell the internet which DNS servers are responsible for managing your domain's DNS records.

When you purchase hosting from Prabhu Host, you may need to update your domain's nameservers so that the domain can use the DNS records provided by your hosting server.

For domains registered through Prabhu Host, nameservers can be updated from the Client Area.

Important: If your domain is registered with another registrar, you must change the nameservers through that registrar's domain management panel.

Prabhu Host Default Nameservers

When using Prabhu Host hosting, use the nameservers provided with your hosting account.

For example:

ns101.prabhuhost.com
ns102.prabhuhost.com

Note: Always use the nameservers provided in your hosting account or by Prabhu Host Support, as nameservers may vary depending on the hosting platform.

How to Change Nameservers

Step 1: Log in to your Client Area

Log in to your Prabhu Host Client Area using your registered email address and password.

Step 2: Open Your Domains

Navigate to:

Domains → My Domains

Locate the domain for which you want to change the nameservers.

Step 3: Open Domain Management

Click Manage Domain for the selected domain.

Look for the Nameservers or Change Nameservers option.

Step 4: Enter the New Nameservers

Select the option to use custom nameservers and enter the nameservers provided by your hosting provider.

For Prabhu Host hosting, for example:

Nameserver 1: ns101.prabhuhost.com
Nameserver 2: ns102.prabhuhost.com

Remove any old nameservers that are no longer required.

Step 5: Save the Changes

Click Change Nameservers, Save Changes, or the corresponding option shown in the domain management panel.

Your new nameservers will then be submitted to the domain's registrar.

Important: DNS Propagation

Nameserver changes do not always take effect immediately.

After changing nameservers, DNS information may take some time to update across different DNS resolvers and networks.

During this period:

  • Some users may still reach the old server.

  • Others may reach the new server.

  • DNS checking tools may show different results temporarily.

  • Websites and email services may be affected if the DNS records on the new nameservers are not configured correctly.

Before Changing Nameservers

If your domain currently has an active website or email service, make sure the required DNS records are available on the new DNS provider before changing nameservers.

For example, check that the new DNS zone contains the required:

  • A records

  • CNAME records

  • MX records

  • TXT records

  • Other records required by your website or email service

This helps prevent website or email interruptions during the nameserver change.

Using Custom Nameservers

If you choose to use a third-party DNS provider such as Cloudflare, you should use the nameservers provided by that provider.

In this situation, DNS records must be managed through the third-party DNS provider.

For example:

Domain → Cloudflare Nameservers → Cloudflare DNS Records → Hosting Server

DNS records added in the Prabhu Host DNS management panel will not be authoritative if the domain is using completely different nameservers.

How to Verify the Nameserver Change

After updating the nameservers, you can verify them using an online DNS checker or command-line tools such as:

dig NS example.com

You can also query a specific nameserver:

dig @ns101.prabhuhost.com example.com

Replace example.com with your actual domain name.

Common Issues

The website is not opening after changing nameservers

Check that:

  1. The nameservers are correct.

  2. The DNS zone contains the correct A record.

  3. The domain points to the correct hosting server IP.

  4. DNS propagation has completed.

  5. The domain is active and not suspended or expired.

DNS records added in cPanel are not working

First check whether the domain is actually using the nameservers associated with that cPanel server.

If the domain uses custom nameservers such as Cloudflare or another DNS provider, DNS records must be added there instead.

Email stopped working after changing nameservers

Make sure the required MX, SPF, DKIM, and other email-related DNS records are configured on the new authoritative DNS provider.
